On 31 July 2012, Dixie and I drove to Markerville, southwest of Red Deer, to explore this Icelandic settlement. Stephan Stephansson, an Icelandic poet and writer, settled here. The site is an Alberta Provincial Historic Site. In addition, we made a quick stop at the farm where the Edmonton market asparagus is grown, west of Red Deer.
